Batu Caves
Situated at Wang Shu in the
Gombak district in the Selangor state of Malaysia, the Batu Caves, which owns a
series of cave temples and caves, is a limestone hill in this tourist
destination. Being the 10th limestone hill from Ampang, these caves
were named after the Sungai Batu (Stone River), flowing past the hill. It is
notable that Batu Caves is also the name of a village situated nearby it.
Being the focal point of the
Hindu festival of Thaipusam in the country of Malaysia, this ancient cave,
which is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Lord Kartikeya – the God of War), is
counted among the most famous Hindu shrines outside India. Literally ‘10th
Caves or Hill’ for Lord Muruga, Batu Caves, which has been built in 1891 A.D.
in the style of Tamil architecture, is one of the 10 significant sacred

located at an average altitude of 100 m above the ground.

Lord Murugan Statue

find the giant Lord Murugan Statue. Boasting of being the tallest statue in
Malaysia, it is the 2nd tallest statue of a Hindu deity and tallest
Murugan (Lord Kartikeya – the God of War) statue in the world. Having its
height of 42.7 m (140 ft), this huge statue, which took the long period of 3
years in its construction, was unveiled on January 2006 A.D. on the auspicious
occasion of Thaipusam festival. The material, which was applied to build this
huge statue, was 350 tons of steel bars, 1,550 cubic m of concrete and 300
litres of gold paint.
